- molded carpet--A
molded carpet is, in this case, is automotive grade carpeting that has had
heat applied to it in a mold of a vehicles specific floor pan. It then
is allowed to sit in the mold for a specified amount of time to
retain that shape. Once molded correctly, the carpet does not loose
it's shape and retains the contours of the floor pan. Each molded
carpet is made to fit only a specific year, make and model car, truck or
suv's floor pan. No generic fit, each molded carpet is tailored to fit
your vehicle's contours. We sell molded carpet that is the correct fit for
your vehicle.
- molded vinyl floor covering--Molded vinyl
floor covering is made in much the same way as the molded carpet, however,
along with heat, vacuum is also applied to assist the vinyl to hold it's
shape correctly. The molded vinyl floor covering is an alternative to
molded carpet and is primarily used in truck and suv applications, but in
most cases with a few exceptions, can be manufactured for any vehicle that
we offer a molded carpet for. This product is approximately 1/8"
thick, has a pebble grain and is available in 7 colors. There is
enough heavy jute pad included to cover the floor pan areas. Extremely
durable, this is an excellent choice for vehicle's that get a lot of hard
use.
- passenger compartment carpet (or passenger
area carpet)--This is a carpet that:
In a car or suv the passenger compartment or passenger area
carpet covers the area where all of the people sit in both the
front and second rows of seating. Generally what is not included in a
passenger compartment carpet is the cargo area carpet
On a full sized van or minivan (eg: Windstar, Chevy van,
Dodge Van, Caravan, etc), however, the passenger compartment is different
and in most cases this carpet ends right behind the front row of seating
(remember this is the van only).
- complete carpet set (or complete set)--A
complete carpet set generally consists of the passenger compartment (where
all of the people sit in both the first and second row seating) and the
cargo area. Each application varies a little after that. Some
simply consist of passenger compartment and cargo area, and other sets have
wheel wells, tail gate pieces, pillar panels, etc. You need to check
your particular application (year, make and model vehicle) to see what
is included in a complete set for your specific vehicle.
- mass back or mass backing--This is
ethylene vinyl acetate 40 ml thick.
It adds sound deadening and insulation qualities to the carpet and is
available as a special order item at an additional cost on most vehicles. Once your carpet is
installed in your vehicle a mass backed carpet will not look any different
than the poly backed carpet, nor will it wear any better than the poly
backed carpet.
Mass backing is added for additional sound deadening and heat shielding
for your vehicle.
This is an option that is available for most vehicles that have a
molded carpet. Our carpets retain their shape--since they are molded
correctly--regardless if they are ordered with or without the mass backing
option and will come with a heavy
jute pad for the floor pan areas for sound
deadening whether ordered with special order mass backing or the standard
poly back. Mass backing is a special order option. Special orders do
not take any longer to manufacture and ship than our standard products.
Remember, mass backing can only be applied to a carpet that is actually
molded. It is applied with heat and bonded to the back of your molded
carpet. If your carpet has a cargo area or other pieces that are die cut,
there won't be mass backing on that die cut carpet piece, only the molded
pieces in your set will have the mass backing on them since it is applied to
the back of the carpet during the heat and molding process.
